Start by visiting the capital of Friesland, Leeuwarden: This town is full of traditional and colorful architecture, walk through the Old Center to admire it. Don't miss seeing the leaning Tower of Oldehove. Enjoy the typical Dutch scenery like canals and bridges. Have a coffee in the main square and visit De Waag. This is where they used to in the old days to weigh all the goods coming into the city. Visit the Fries Museum where you can learn more about local history, including one of the more famous Leeuwarden inhabitants, the double spy Mata Hari.

Stroll through the pretty streets of what was known as the Jewish Quarter. At the heart of this neighborhood, you will come across a memorial monument, honoring the Jewish community that once thrived here. It was wiped out by the Nazis, unfortunately. The community shrunk from 655 Jews, less than 100 survived. The monument in the shape of a mezuza, a mezuza is put on the right side of the doorpost of Jewish homes. The purpose of it is to be a constant reminder of God's presence.

This memorial stands across from the first Jewish school in the Netherlands. Sadly, the school closed as no child survived the war. The building is now called 'The child is no more'…
Stop by Blokhuispoort: This is an interesting collection of buildings dating back to the 14th century. It served as a prison from 1661 till 2008. It was then transformed into the complete opposite; it was turned into a cultural center.

Sneek: It is a beautiful centuries-old town filled with character, traditional architecture, and unusual churches. The most famous highlight here is the Waterport at the entrance to the center. From here you have gorgeous open views of the water and the town in front of you. Another fun thing to do is rent a small boat to cruise around in.
