Ever since my first visit to Paris at age 17, I planned to take some time off in the future and move here for a couple of months. I wanted to get the chance to truly experience and understand the French culture. Paris is rich in history, a city so stylish and sophisticated, absolutely stunning! As for me, life has had other plans and I never did take that Parisian break. So each time I come to Paris, I feel as if I'm reconnecting with my younger self, it energizes me. Paris is always so much fun!

17 X Travel Activities To Enjoy While In Paris

  • Stray off the tourist trail and wander the beautiful streets of Paris! Every street will offer you gorgeous architecture, color, and often amazing views too. We wandered around randomly at times and discovered so many pretty spots in town we would have otherwise missed.

  • The Eiffel Tower: Much has been written about this iconic landmark, also considered a must activity when visiting Paris. I tend to agree, however, a couple of points to keep in mind: It is advisable to purchase your ticket online to avoid the crazy lines that will await you. No matter the season in which you're visiting, you will be surrounded by a sea of people.
NOTE: Due to COVID restrictions, all tickets must be purchased in advance and online!

The price of your ticket will be high! The lines are long and slow even with pre-purchased tickets. The lines are not only to purchase a ticket. They divide into three lines: People using the steps which is the cheapest option, people going up to the second floor, and people riding the elevator to the very top. During this last trip to Paris, we decided to give it a try as some family members with me have never gone up as I did. We stood in line for about 1
an hour and 30 min, in this time frame we moved maybe 2 meters...

You will have to dedicate quite a few hours to this activity, so depending on how many days you have in Paris, think about whether it's worth it to you. We chose to enjoy the location itself instead which is unique too. In the area, you'll find other landmarks and other viewing points of the tower. We viewed the Eiffel from the Montparnasse building for example.

  • Take a canal cruise possibly with dinner: You'll see much of the city only from a different perspective.

  • Go up the Arc de Triomphe: Few people know that you can go up for some spectacular views! However, there are quite a few stairs involved they don't tell you that when buying your ticket, and once you start there's no going back so brace yourself!

  • Visit Père Lachaise cemetery: This is the largest cemetery in Paris attracting millions of visitors annually, making it the most visited graveyard in the world! Sounds crazy I know. Many icons are buried here one of which is Jim Morrison, the one I wanted to visit. Others are Chopin, Moliere, Edith Piaf, Rossini, and Oscar Wilde.

  • Go up Montmartre: This is a large hill going up 130 meters. It has a bustling center filled with artists, street musicians, and breathtaking streets offering viewing points of the city below. Daytime and evening time are very different from each other so I recommend both.

  • Stop by a local patisserie: They have the most beautifully designed pastries and they are so delicious! Macaroons are my favs!

Tip! Stop by the upscale bakery Pierre Hermé.

  • Visit the iconic Opera House and the surrounding areas: It's simply exquisite! If you're in Paris during Fashion Week you'll be able to enjoy a glimpse into the glitz and glamour of it, outrageously stylish looks and pozes traditionally take place on the steps of the Opera house.

Dinner Tip: Have dinner at Balagan ~ This restaurant is where outside the box is the way to get things done. Crazy trendy vibes, beautiful food, and truly a culinary experience!

  • Have an afternoon and night out exploring Saint-Michel: This is a neighborhood located in the Latin Quater of Paris across the water from the Notre Dame Cathedral. There are narrow colorful streets here, fountains, monuments, and the Sorbonne University is in this area as well. It has young and cool vibes, yummy food, music, and street artists all around.

Lunch Tip: Stop by Salatim for lunch!

The Champ Elysee in Paris

Oh Champ Elysee!

  • Explore the Champ Elysee: This iconic Avenue is buzzing with energy and money vibes. The grand stores are incredible! Much like their price tags haha...We had a fun time looking inside the gorgeous stores, admiring the window displays and the service one gets here. It was good fun trying out a few outfits as well while we were at it.

When we visited Dior, we happen to share the floor with two Japanese royalties. It was quite something watching the interaction of the staff with them and their shopping methods.

  • Want to connect with your inner child? Fancy fun rides with Mickey and Donald? Spend the day in Euro Disney! It's perfect for young and old, with or without kids...It's one HAPPY place!

  • Visit Pompidou square and the area of Rue du Saint-Honore: Art, loads of color, and good shopping, filled with unique little boutiques as well as big brands like Supreme. You'll find hidden gardens to visit along the way too.

  • While Notre Dame is being renovated after the devastating fires of last year, you can still, of course, visit it. There are no shortages of churches and pretty cathedrals around the city to admire also. For example, walk around Porte st Eustache and go inside the church standing right in the middle. It was built in 1532 and has the biggest pipe organ in the whole of France.

  • Follow in the footsteps of the 'De Vinci Code': This best-selling book was written by Dan Brown, it takes place in Paris among other places. I'm a big fan of this book so if you're anything like me, you will truly enjoy doing this. Taking this tour will bring it all to life for you in an amazing way.

You will end the Parisian part of the trail in the Louvre Museum by the inverted pyramid in the Carrousel du Louvre. You will also have a chance to admire the Mona Lisa from close up as well as wonderful art exhibits available in the 16 Km this museum covers! And it's true, it's a small painting! Nothing like the grandiose image most of us have in our minds when standing in line to view it.

Fun fact: It will take a person three full months of wandering in this museum, day and night to see all that it has to offer.
