Cities To Visit In Israel That Are Not Tel Aviv Or Jerusalem!

Northern Israel

Nahariya

The city of Nahariya is the northernmost coastal city of Israel and possibly most famous for the beautiful stretch of beach filled with lovely restaurants and water sports you can enjoy. Next door is the Achziv National Beach Park, a must-visit when exploring this region of Israel. The beach here is gorgeous with its beautiful small bays and rock burrows. You can visit the ruins of the old biblical town of Achziv, learn about the flora & fauna unique to this area, and if you are lucky and on the season, spot sea turtles that have made this beach their home.

Tiberias

The historical city of Tiberias is on the shore of the Kineret Lake ~ the Sea of Galilee, in northern Israel. Tiberias has a pretty old center rich with history and religious pilgrimage spots for both Jews and Christians, for example, the place where Jesus is believed to have walked on water and the Tomb of Maimonides is here. The waterfront is fun to stroll through, with views and fish restaurants serving the fresh catch of the day caught in the Kineret.

The beaches are beautiful! You can enjoy speedboating, kayaking, fishing, or just float on a mattress taking in the views. The water is cold but oh so refreshing as summer temperatures here are very high.

BONUS TIP!

Hamat Gader on the edge of town offers unique experiences of hot (sulfur) springs and other activities.

Akko is a historic and ancient port city located in the Northwest of Israel, on the Mediterranean coast. What is unique about this city is the fact it has a mixed population of both Jews and Arabs, living together in harmony which adds charm and character. When you explore Akko you will see both religions and cultures showcased throughout. The old town is very colorful and vibrant, surrounded by well-preserved old walls. The port is a lovely place to stroll through and explore; the market place, walk on the city walls, take a break in one of the delicious restaurants serving fresh fish and Mediterranean cuisine.

From the harbor, you can take boats out to enjoy panoramic views from the sea. Other activities to do especially when you are a history buff are walking in the Templars’ Tunnels and other underground hidden passages and visit the museum of Treasures in the Walls- Ethnographic Museum that will take you back to Ottoman times. In Akko, you will also find the famous and breathtaking synagogue featuring not one but seven Torah arks!
